Wheel of Awareness Practice

The Wheel of Awareness is a mindfulness practice and visual metaphor created by psychiatrist Dr. Dan Siegel to help people integrate consciousness, focus attention, and to become aware of and relate differently to thoughts, feelings, and sensations.

Hub – The center of the wheel: the experience of awareness itself (presence).

Rim – The outer circle: everything that can be known or noticed (sensations, thoughts, emotions, relationships).

Spoke – The line from hub to rim: the focus of attention that moves to different points on the rim.

The practice trains you to move the spoke (your attention) deliberately around the rim and then return to the hub, cultivating “awareness of awareness.”

How It Is Helpful

Improved focus and emotional regulation through deliberate attention training.

Greater empathy, compassion, and relational attunement via the connection segment and hub practice.

A clearer sense of self that holds many inner experiences without being overwhelmed by any single one.
